Are you up for cutting your own hair?

There are some salon results that can be achieved at home.  Waxing, tanning and pedicures for example.  And then there are some things that should just be left to the professionals right? Like cutting hair.

The main reason for cutting your own hair is likely to be the expense of regular hair cuts.  Which is where I've been lucky my whole life, by always knowing a hair dresser.  And by knowing I mean in the family.  My auntie, my other auntie, my cousin, my sister-in-law's sister.  My current stylist is my sister-in-law.  Her salon is literally a 2 minute walk from my house.  Fringe trims, split ends, brightening up my colour - it's no more than a text away.  And yes the mates rates probably add to the convenience.

I once wrote an article in which I stated:

I cannot fathom taking a pair of scissors to my own hair - judging by my colouring-in skills and my un-even picture hanging, I'd be better off taking a set of clippers to my head, than attempting to cut my own hair.  The thought of an uneven and unsightly hair cut is enough to keep any second thoughts away.  I can safely say I never have, nor ever will, cut my own hair.  I will not trim split ends, I will not tidy my own fringe and I will not attempt to shape my hair in any way.

But...when news of this trial opportunity reached BRHQ, I was challenged by my  crew members to restyle my hair at home.  Including cutting it. The trial product that started it all?

The Creaclip.

This simple looking clip promises that you can cut your own hair at home with professional results. It's great for cutting children's hair, trimming bangs, creating layers, or just maintaining a hairstyle between cuts.

Each set contains

  • One small CreaClip - For short hair and bangs

  • One Large Curved CreaClip- For long hair and layers

  • One pair of hair scissors.

The features of the clips include:
  • Rotating Level - For balanced and precise cuts everytime
  • Teeth - Evenly combs and distributes the hair

  • Lock - Secures hair in place while you cut

It sounds pretty simple - but we need 5 members to tell us if it's the secret to a great at-home hair cut!

Do you cut your hair yourself?  Why do you choose to DIY rather than see a professional stylist? How adventurous do you get - do you just trim the ends, or do you do proper cuts?  Or do you refuse to let anyone but a trained hairdresser cut your locks?

If you'd like to trial the Creaclip tell us below and confirm you'd be willing to share before and after pictures.  We'll be handpicking this team so don't be shy - if you want in, tell us below!

I would be really interested to trial this product. I often attempt fridge cuts, and recently got so desperate for some shorter layers that I even chopped away at them. I usually get my hairdresser to cut my hair but I seem to always need her a week before she's free and that's when I take matters into my own hands. I have long layered hair. I also gave my son a haircut...big fail!

Be interesting to try.. if it would work or not and if you need a certain "type " of hair ...i have thick hair and alot of it! With a double crown to match..i always cut my own hair as a hairdresser once told me i have too much hair and got very annoyed at 2crowns..sooo never been to another hairdresser in many years xx

I've never cut my own hair but would be keen to try this. I hate going to the hairdresser, my hair is really thick and spend upwards of an hour getting it cut, I just don't have the time with 5 children so it often gets neglected. Being able to do it at home would be amazing.

I'm a cosmetologist, so I am trained to cut hair. However, not my own. I do cut my own to save money and brush up my skills. I'd love to try a product that can make it easier.

This would be great for me as I'm one of those terrible people that gets their hair cut once a year because I hate spending money on a hair cut that I'm probably not going to like then I'll go home and fix it myself. Would love to have something I can do at home and not let my hair get so damaged as I won't have an excuse not to keep it trimmed. What a great idea :)

Yes, I already cut my own hair anyway, and have no qualms about posting photos - I already do on Facebook in order to entertain my friends, regarding its various incarnations, lol.

I would not dare touch my hair with scissors. It's my treasure so I leave it up to one particular hair expert who I trust with my bottom length hair! I remember the home fringe cuts by mum when I was little... I think a lot of us have asked ''why did you let me look like that?'' Me and strait cut fringe do not get along! I would love to see pictures and videos of someone giving this a go. Seems interesting!

No way, I can't even walk in a straight line so I'd dread to think what my hair cutting skills would be!

24th April, 2016

I would love to try this so I can cut and style my own hair.

Willing to have a go on my own and (if I can persuade them) teenage daughters' hair. We get shaggy in between going to hairdressers as its too expensive to go every 6-7 weeks that they recommend. This sounds great & would save us from the caveman look. Love the spirit level! Hubby's hair is close cropped but he might even angle for having a go on us- almost looks like it could belong in a tool belt.

I'll so give this a go, I have tried a few times but even lines are not my strong point, be cool for cutting kids hair as well. Always in to saying some dollars.

mmmmm its a definite no from me
