SOLVED! 5 Embarrassing Problems From Shaving Down There...

What area of personal grooming do we talk the least about?  Taming the bush right?  I mean it's downstairs.  It's your lady area.  And a lady reveals nothing...

PFFFT!

We all know taking a razor to your pubic hair is not the best way to groom it, but for many it's simply the most convenient and cheapest option.  So we do it.  And if you have done it, or you do do it, you'll know taking a razor to your bush is not without its risks.

Here's 5 problems that can arise when shaving your pubes - and how to handle them!

Razor Rash

Is there ANYTHING more irritating and tender than pubic area razor rash?  The post-wax chicken skin bumps aint got nothing on the ole razor rash.  If you've got a case of the ouchie bumps going on the best thing to do is keep the area hydrated with a light moisturiser and and dab some hydrocortisone cream on the particularly sore areas to calm inflammation and encourage healing.  Going commando for at least half an hour after moistursing and wearing loose cotton undies for the next few days should make you more comfy.

Shaving Cut

OUCHIE!  If you nick yourself stop right away and grab a clean cotton ball to stem the blood flow.  Assess how bad the cut is, for minor cuts apply a healing cream and avoid shaving there for the next few days.  Keep the area clean until healed, especially after using the loo.

Ingrown Hair

Gosh are pubes prone to ingrowing or what?!  Firstly - do not try to pick, squeeze or pop!  Apply a hot compress to the spot a few times a day to coax the hair out by itself.   If it's sore and red it's probably infected, so treat in the same way, but add a topical antibiotic once dry.  Exfoliating regularly will help prevent dead skin cells blocking future pube growth.

Post-shave Itch

So smooth for a day, so scratchy for days.  Cold packs will stop the itch, but are not the most practical solution!  Slathering your pubic area in a thick, rich body moisturiser should stop the itch, and create a nice barrier preventing your clothing from irritating.

New razor not cutting it.

Hair longer than 1/4 inch will jam even the shiniest of new razors, so if it's been a while since you last shaved the lady garden, you're going to want to trim the hair as close to the skin with a clean, sharp pair of scissors first.  Don't try to force your razor through a bush too thick, you're more likely to cut yourself, or simply dull the blades.

'fess up then - do you prune the garden with a razor?  How do you tackle the problems that go hand-in-hand with shaving down there?  Get chatting below!

Some really good tips here. I sometimes let things get away and then have to deal to the hair. Then things are just plain itchy and uncomfortable. And nobody wants to be scratching down there for the world to see!

I like hair removal cream best i end up having to tidy it up with a razor. I have had a few waxes and done many on people. They give best results.

I have used just about every method, including the laser zapper, but post baby I started to use the razor, mainly as a starting back into a routine option. Shave with the direction of the hair after giving the area a good wash with a gentle scrub. Then post removal use a good moisturiser to prevent rash and ingrowns. It's not as good as a wax, but is passable for the public pool and the moisturiser also makes the area soft for any further action.

I am not brave enough to shave down there. I prefer the waxing way.

3rd September, 2017

I probably don't shave as regularly as I would like to as I get the dreaded rash which is friggin painful and irriating. If I didn't get that, I would do it regularly. Hubby bought me a laser system so will be using that, but unfortunately you still have too shave down there before using grrrr lol

Hopefully I'm not alone though when I say I don't do it as often in the winter as I find it gives me added warmth down there ha ha ha. Omg can't believe I just said that but hey, we're all women and I feel comfortable talking about this with you lovelies only ha ha ha xx

I tried an epilator down there once, ouch!!!! never again!..shaving is so much easier, cost effective and virtually pain free unless you nick yourself, then it is a different story.

Tried shaving once many years ago and the regrowth was so itchy, never again. Always wax it all off. Appreciate the section on ingrown hairs, will definitely try those tips out.

I wax and epilate my bikini area, after giving up on shaving a few summers ago due to razor rash & itch. I tweezers the bits I miss. Wouldn't be without Bump Eraiser Media paste for clearing up infections, it's strong stuff and does the job. There's also a Bump Eraiser spray serum which is a bit stingy but a good disinfectant. Recommend both, but they are about $30 each, which also stings haha

I shave and I am guilty of digging and picking at ingrowns so I can pull out the annoying hair. Nicks are my main problem and also trying to ladyscape and get all the areas shaved as the more down south you go the less you can see and the less flat surface you have.

2nd September, 2017

I always shave down there! It's a very weird sensation at first, but then you get used to it and it's all fine.

I wax Or get waxed Nearly all year round I've done the odd shave but I'm lazy and waxing lasts but also I do get the odd ingrown hair No matter how much exfoliating I do

1st September, 2017

I shave weekly . I am guilty of popping ingrown hairs. I do exfoliate once a week.. It helps.

1st September, 2017

I shave everyday and have done since 19. I can't stand hair so it's what I do. At first I had all those problems listed but after a month it's like second nature. Now I have none of those problems so happily shave rather than any other hair removal techniques

1st September, 2017

I have always shaved my lady bits! I don't get the itch, I sometimes nick in areas though that's a pain. As long as the razor you use is sharp enough lol

1st September, 2017

I use the battery one which is used for men hair cut..lol but it's not at all bad as shaving. Shaving ...thinking of this gives me goose bumps. My way doesn't remove them from roots but it is still neat and clean. Yeah, it does gives you sometimes ingrown hair but I would suggest you to give it a go as it is safe if you are doing it carefully and no stress of getting any cuts. Well my husband doesn't know that his machine is used for my purpose as well..a cute cheat..

I use the Bump Eraiser spray but have never seen the Media Paste. Where did you get it from?

Hello Tabucutie, the last lot I bought from Beauty Club at Northwest shopping mall. As I hadn't seen it for ages I had emailed the Aussie distributor who put me on to NZ agent who gave local info. They answered pretty quick, good service.

How does the laser system work mumof3? I'd love to do something permanent or semi permanent but haven't found the answer yet?,

Sophia

IPL kills the hair follicle. I understand it's quite permanent but not 100%. I'd like to try it
