A craze has been sweeping the beauty world, one that serves no purpose really other to entertain. It’s not a look you’d leave the house wearing. It’s not a look you’d probably ever need to perfect for a Halloween costume. It’s just… crazy. What am I talking about? I’m talking about the ‘100 layers of’ fad. Beauty bloggers and vloggers are taking products, like mascara, liquid lipstick and highlighter, and pouring them onto their faces, just to see what it looks like.
And what does it look like? Interesting. In that car crash can’t turn away kind of way. So what’s being layered on and what do we think? Check these out! (Or don’t if you’re not fond of the odd expletive…)
The first ‘100 layers of’ vid we caught wind of was the creation of Simply Nailogical. 100+ Coats of Nail Polish is an epic watch. She spent over 12 hours applying layer after layer after layer of polish to her hand. The grand total? 112 layers of polish. The look? Reminiscent of bubble nails, but with a colourific sedimentary rock feel.
Then came 100 layers of liquid lipstick. Check out this video from YouTuber, mayratouchofglam.
A) We can’t believe how much bigger lips look with that many layers of lipstick. B) We’ve never seen anything as stomach swirling as watching her peel the lipstick off her mouth. That’s an image that’ll haunt me.
If you didn’t think 100 layers of liquid lipstick was enough. BR fav, Ally Babe, gave 300 layers of liquid lipstick a crack. That woman has some incredible patience. I’d have given up by layer ten.
Of course, 100 coats of mascara had to be a thing. Though this vid from Nicole Skyes had a twist, in that she wanted to see how many coats you got out of a mascara bottle. The answer? 120. The look? Who needs false lashes!? Well, since she described the feeling of 100+ layers of mascara on her eyelashes like she had eyelash dreads, we think it’s false lashes for the win…
We can’t understand 95% of what he says, but Thomas Sekelius’ 100 Layers of Foundation, is fabulous. He’s super cute, super entertaining, and looks like a handsome mannequin with layers upon layers of slap on his face. Wayne Goss, watch out, we may have a new favourite.
Speaking of Mr Goss, he attempted 100 layers of highlighter (and 100 layers of mascara too, in which he recommends we don’t try that challenge at home, and by the look on his tear stained face, he’s probably quite correct.) The highlighter challenge was a hoot – with his cheek coming out looking like the Tin Man.
